Jović Confers with Senegalese Foreign Minister in Dakar

The interlocutors noted that Serbia and Senegal are marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year and recalled the traditional friendship between the two countries, whose roots date back to the period of Senegal’s independence and the strong support extended by the former Yugoslavia to the liberation of African countries.

They reflected in particular on the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement and Serbia’s long-standing ties with African countries, underscoring the importance of preserving and further developing the friendships built over the past decades.

Minister Niang noted that Senegal is well acquainted with Serbia’s development achievements and conveyed his country’s readiness to further advance cooperation with Serbia. The interlocutors agreed that there is mutual interest in further deepening bilateral relations and bringing fresh momentum to political dialogue, including through more intensive contacts and exchanges of visits at the high and highest levels.

Information and communication technologies, agriculture and the food industry, medicine and pharmaceuticals, as well as military-technical and security cooperation, were identified as areas offering considerable potential for more substantive cooperation. The importance of holding political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs was also highlighted.

During the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged views on current regional and global security challenges and expressed their readiness to intensify cooperation and the exchange of experience in this field.
